At Spencers Car Sales, we’ve been in the motor trade long enough to know that running a dealership isn’t just about buying and selling cars. The market can be extremely dynamic, and outside factors – sometimes completely out of our control – can quickly make the difference between a bustling showroom and a quieter spell.

Political and Economic Influences
Government policies, interest rates, and wider economic conditions often play a big part in how busy dealerships are. For example, when interest rates are low, finance packages become more affordable, and more customers feel confident in making a purchase. On the other hand, uncertainty in the economy or political changes can cause people to hold off on big spending decisions like buying a car.

Supply Chain Challenges
In recent years, supply chain issues have become a major influence on the car industry. The semiconductor shortage highlighted just how fragile production can be, with new cars delayed and used cars suddenly in higher demand. Today, we are seeing another example of this with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) enduring a cyber attack that has temporarily halted production.

The impact is significant – not only on the availability of new JLR vehicles, but also on the used car market and even spare parts. If production stops, dealers can’t get new stock, which means more pressure is placed on the used market. On top of that, simple jobs like preparing a used Land Rover or Jaguar for sale become more difficult when spare parts are hard to come by.

Seasonal Trends
Seasonal factors also influence demand. For instance, convertibles tend to sell better in spring and summer, while 4x4s and SUVs often see a spike in interest during winter months. School holidays and the run-up to Christmas can also quieten activity, as customers naturally have other priorities.

Why Spencers Car Sales Stays Dynamic
What makes Spencers Car Sales different is how adaptable we are to these changes. We keep a close eye on the wider market, making sure we’re responsive to challenges and quick to adapt our stock and services to suit demand. Whether supply chains are disrupted, policies change, or the economy shifts, our team is experienced in staying flexible and keeping customers at the heart of everything we do.
