The best cars for winter driving
Although the UK doesn’t see winter weather as bad as some places we still experience very cold, short days, wind, and slippy roads.
It may be around this time you wished you had invested in a car that has heated seats and can grip the roads in the colder months.
Here is a list of cars we think are great for winter driving:
Volvo XC90
Volvo is renowned for safe car production and the XC90 is one of the best examples and has a five-star safety rating. In addition, the car has safety features that keep passengers and pedestrians safe.
It has a safe positioning system that tightens the driver’s seatbelt limiting acceleration if a possible collision is detected. It also sports a “winter mode” which helps the car take off on icy slippery roads by starting in third gear.
Audi Q3
The Audi Q3 is a great car for winter with a five-star safety rating, Apart from the Quattro system, the Q3 sports an active lane-keeping system, ABS, parking system and anti-slip regulation (ASR) system. It prides itself on enhancing road grip in any weather conditions.
Range Rover Sport
It may be a more upmarket, expensive model of car but it ticks all the boxes when it comes to road safety in winter conditions. With heated passenger seats and a heated steering wheel.
The Sorento
The Sorrento benefits from Hill-start assist control, which reduces the chances of wheel spin or roll back when setting off from steep icy roads. The Sorento was tested three times in total, with the last two times – in 2009 and 2014 - scoring the full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
BMW 3 series
The BMW 3 series offers hassle-free winter driving, with many features that allow you to stay in control in the winter months. BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system regulates engine torque and brakes to maximise grip with the road.
