The safety rating of your vehicle is one of the key elements, for anyone with or without a family, to consider when purchasing a new car.

How are cars tested for safety?

If you ever search for how safe a car is, there is a good chance you’ve seen Euro NCAP.

Euro NCAP is a voluntary car safety assessment programme based in Europe. These are the people that put mannequins with stickers on them into cars and then drive cars into poles, walls and other cars. But there is a lot of science and data behind all the cars’ destruction.

Multiple accidents are replicated, including a 31mph accident with an oncoming car, driving into a solid barrier at 31mph, a side impact at 37 mph, hitting a static pole at 20mph and a whiplash test, where the car is propelled rapidly forward to test the strain on crash dummies necks.

Further to this, Euro NCAP also tests for pedestrians’ and cyclists’ safety with upper and lower leg impacts, determining how safe the vehicle is to the public.

Here is a pick of the safest family cars you can buy in 2022 in no particular order. All of these cars received a five-star rating from EuroNCAP.
