If you love a bargain and are in the market for a mid-range car, there are many benefits of buying a used car.

Before you make your purchase, you should first take a few precautions to ensure you’re getting a good deal and won’t be spending a lot of money down the line on repairs.

Here are a few more things you should do and look out for when buying a used car:

Get a vehicle history check

This will allow you to find out whether the car you’re interested in buying has ever been written off or if it has been reported stolen. If the seller isn’t providing one for you, you can get a car history check for a relatively small fee.

Research the value of the vehicle

The main aim of buying a used car is to save yourself some money, so before you purchase a car, compare the seller’s price to the market value. Do plenty of research on the model you’ve chosen and find out everything there is to know about it.

Use a safe dealer

A lot of people have been ripped off when trying to buy a used vehicle. A lot of sellers online will play down faults or potential issues with the car. If you use a trusted used car dealer, you know you’re in safe hands and don’t have to worry about potentially making a purchase you’ll regret.

Check the clock

An old trick that scammers use is something called ‘clocking’. This is when the odometer has been tampered with to reduce the mileage of the car, thus making it more appealing to a potential buyer. A lot of sellers online who can’t be trusted will often wind back the mileage because for every 1,000 miles removed from the clock, the value of the vehicle will increase significantly.

Transport For London

Cars need to meet minimum emission standards when travelling in the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) or the daily charge must be paid.

The ULEZ will be enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age. However:
